Barbie’s Office!

I need to get better at doing these in a timely fashion – everyone at work has already seen the results of this one!

Here’s where we’re working today:

This is actually in the walk-out basement, in the area I like to call the ~rumpus room~ but could also be a living room, family room, gym or office. Or, a gymoffice!

Here’s what it looked like originally:

Serviceable, but lacking a little je ne sais quoi … So, unlike most areas of the house, I decided to throw caution to the wind on paint color –

It’s my house, after all! This color is called “Pressed Flower” –

However, for resale purposes, as well as my own purposes, I want to make the space as functional as possible, and get myself a cool Zoom background – I found the BOAXEL system from IKEA and decided to make a wall of shelving that could be repurposed in multiple different ways. After playing around with the online tool a bit and looking at yet more inspo photos, this is the design I came up with:

It’ll pretty much fill-out the wall, and I set it up to have multiple “zones” so the office-y part could be towards the left (where I can see out the window), and a gym-y part on the right, where I can put the Peloton so it’s close-at-hand for lunchtime rides.

After buying all the pieces (and there were *a lot* of pieces) and doing yet more painting of walls and ceilings, I starting laying out the sections:

Oh that paint color is just right!

And just to spoil the surprise, this is about to take 320493820349820384203 drywall anchors to install. I also found that I very much don’t recommend doing such things solo because until the whole thing is assembled and structurally sound, each piece will find a way to wiggle lose and fall on your head as you’re sitting below it.

But, nevermind – let’s keep going!

(It also took a lot of potato chips, coconut water, and hours of daylight, apparently!)

And it was generally while spending all this time in the basement, working on this assembly, that I realized how many BUNNIES there were hanging around my backyard! Just look at that cotton-ball tail:

He is not pleased that someone else lives here now.

Anyway, after unpacking, reorganizing, [re-reading,] and setting everything out just-so, here’s how the finished product came out:

Yes, Margot Robbie would fit right in –

Debits

Don’t forget the debits! After shelving and curtain hardware, budget remaining (out of $50,000): $41,275
